Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru Logistics Office targets to absorb 2,200 tons of rice from local farmers for social assistance (Bansos) rice for underpriviledged families (Rastra) in 2018.

"We hope rice we absorb from local farmers meet the needs of Bansos Rastra in Kotabaru," said Head of Logistics Office of Kotabaru Nur Endah Saptorini, Sunday.

The target of farmers' rice absorption for Kotabary is about 10 percent of the South Kalimantan target. Currently the local logistics Office has purchased about 25 tons of rice from farmers in Kotabaru and Tanah Bumbu.

Until the end of 2018, Head of Kotabaru Logistics Office predicts, it able to absorb about 200 tons of local rice.

She admitted obstacles in the field in realizing the target. Among others, the price of local farmers' rice is more expensive than the Rp7.300 per kilogram set by the government (HPP).

"The local rice in the field varies from Rp9.600 per kilogram, while the HPP is Rp7,300 per kg, making it difficult for us to buy farmers' rice," Rini added.

Besides the issue of high prices, high water content of rice is also a problem. Not many farmers have drying floors, so the water content of rice is above the standard set by the government.
