Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranewskalsel) - A total of 150 villages from 202 villages and urban villages in Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, are in the forest areas.


Expert Staff for Governance H. Akhmad Rivai in Kotabaru said the presence of 150 villages within the forest area is contained in the Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number: SK.435/Menhut-II/2009 on the Appointment of Forest Area of ??South Kalimantan Province.

"Kotabaru District Government must immediately change the status of villages that are still in the forest area, because if things are not done immediately could disrupt the implementation of development in the region," he reminded.

There are several development activities whose funds are sourced from local budget (APBD) and state budget (APBN) requires the sites to be free from forest areas or disputed areas.

He insisted that the local government had to work hard to get the 150 villages out of the entry status of production forests, protected forests or sunctuary.

Of the 150 villages located in the forest area spread over 21 sub-districts in Kotabaru.

Rivai added that many public facilities are now in the forest areas, such as parts of Gusti Syamsir Alam Airport in Stagen, and North Pulaulaut Police Station in North Pulaulaut Subdistrict.

A number of sub-district offices are also located in forest areas, such as Pulau Sembilan Sub-district along with five villages in the area.

"Nearly the whole Pulau Sembilan Subdistrict in the forest area. It can not be neglected, because in that area there are many public facilities buildings, and the status within the forest area must be changed immediately," said Rivai.

Other villages, among are four villages in Pulaulaut Kepulauan Subdistrict, are in the nature reserve area.

The former Head of Cipta Karya, Settlement, Housing, and Spatial Planning added, the central government through the Provincial Government gave an opportunity to the local government to propose the release of forest areas.

"This opportunity should really be utilized by Kotabaru government in this case because the limit of proposal is May 31, 2018," he reminded.
