Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarbaru Mayor Nadjmi Adhani released tens of thousand papuyu ( climbing perch) fish seeds and jelawat (Leptobarbus hoevenii) fish in Kemuning River in Guntung Paikat Urban Village.

"This release is a form of our concern to preserve river habitat, especially papuyu fish and jelawat fish, so they can grow," he said on the sidelines of the release on Saturday.

Mayor, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Darmawan Jaya Setiawan and DPRD Banjarbaru Speaker AR Iwansyah, said the condition of the Kemuning River is now much better than it used to be.

The river that divides Banjarbaru City in the south, he remarked, can be a good habitat for fish, so that the fish seeds are released to increase and thrive.

"Types of papuyu and jelawat are chosen because both are freshwater fish that characterizes the people of South Kalimantan and is expected to thrive more and more," he hoped.

It is also expected that the existence of fish seeds which amounted to 40 thousand are kept by the surrounding community and not to be caught, so the fish grow fast and large.

Communities are also required to maintain the cleanliness of the river by not carelessly dispose of garbage and other objects so that the body and river banks clean.
