Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Craftsmen from sasirangan fabric production houses now use dyes that come from nature, not chemical synthetic dyes.

Assalam Home Industry Manager Ibn Katsier Mohammed in the sasirangan exhibition in Banjarmasin on Wednesday said that they had learned much about the use of natural materials.

To realize the desire to make the natural materials as a dye substance, the craftsmen went to Jogyakarta just to learn.

"The result is now the sasirangan fabric of our production house all using natural dyes which is softer," he said while showing a number of sasirangan fabric wrapped neatly in the exhibition with dozens of booths are of sasirangan production houses in South Kalimantan.

The exhibition is held in connection with the 2018 Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival (BSF) which is centered in Menara Pandang (City View Tower) at the embankment of Martapura River on Jalan Piere Tendean.

Ibnu, who assisted by some of his staff, also showed some bottles of processed dyes that will be used for sasirangan fabric. The dye comes from turmeric, flower, and some leaves and fruits, with various colors.

Ibnu reminded if washing sasirangan cloth using natural dye substance is indeed to be extra careful till not to change the color to fades.

"We will prescribe the way to wash cloth so that sasirangan natural colors will be durable," said Ibnu who informed that his production house is located in Mulawarman, Central Banjarmasin.

According to him, there are several production houses that use similar substances, but not many, while most still use synthetic dyes made from chemicals.

The reason to use natural dyes is now more in demand, especially foreign tourists who choose natural made not from synthetic materials.
