Tanjung, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banua Lawas Villager, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, have rescued a bekantan (proboscis) trapped in a monkey trap. They then handed it over to the local police. 

"We found bekantan trapped in the trap and is now handed over to the Banua Lawas Police," said Jam`an, a resident of Banua Lawas Village, in Tanjung on Friday.

The animal who became the South Kalimantan mascot was received by the official in charge, the Head of Intelligence Unit and of Criminal Detective Brig, Dwi Sasmito witnessed Banua Lawas Village Head Hornadi.

Furthermore, the police of Banua Lawas contacted the South Kalimantan Natural Resource Conservation Center (BKSDA) and was planned the next day the animal will be taken to Banjarbaru.

Proboscis or in its scientific name Nasalis larvatus is a kind of long-nosed monkey with reddish-brown hair.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry since 2016 has established the bekantan as part of 25 animals to be increased by the population.

In fact, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) places the bekantan as a rare species.
