Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru is now hosting the first International Borneo Karate Open 2017.


"This is a work program of Lemkari in South Kalimantan and Kotabaru is appointed as the host," said Committee Chairman Akhmad Fitriadi on Thursday.

The tournament runs from November 9 to 11, 2017 at Saijaan Indoor Basketball Building, Kotabaru.

A total of 25 contingents with around 300 participants have ensured participate in the inter-dojo Lemkari karate championship over the trophy of the South Kalimantan Governor.

The committee has also invited participants from a number of neighboring countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Unfortunately, they have not confirmed their participation.

"Some time ago we sent a proposal, but until now there has been no confirmation whether they can participate," said Fitriadi.

At International Borneo Karate Open 2017, there are 102 match numbers. By age group they are divided into pre-age (6-7 years), early age (8-9 years), pre-beginners (10-11 years), beginners (12-13 years), cadets (14-15 years) as well as junior (16-19 years old) boys and girls.

Chairman of the Steering Committee Roy Wishnu Purnama said the senior age group deliberately not contested because South Kalimantan has just completed the event of Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in Tabalong.

"If forced to participate, their condition have not recovered, so for the senior and senior class will be held separately," explained Roy.

International Borneo Karate Open 2017 is a work program of Lemkari to find the seeds of athletes. At the same time as an event to capture athletes to follow the international championships that will be held next year in Banjarmasin.
