Press Council: journalists should not overestimate terrorist action

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan 27/7 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Press Council asked reporters to be wise in coverage in the event of terror in the field with no exaggeration of terrorist acts.

The advisor to the Press Council Basidungan Sirait was speaking in the event of "Media literacy as an effort to cease-and-desist radicalism and terrorism in the community" held by the The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and the Communication Forum for the Prevention of Terrorism (FKPT) South Kalimantan at Victoria Hotel here, Thursday.

He said terrorism contained the purpose of spreading fear, if broadcasted too much to make the mission of terrorism a success. "The more people are afraid of their actions, the more fun the terrorist is," he reminded.

So that, continued Basidungan, the spreaders of the news of acts of terror, especially journalists, should have a good consideration in reviewing it.

"Do not be inclined to enlarge the act of terrorist courage, because all of us condemn the action, but how to grow courage and fight it," he said.

Nowadays, he said, everyone can be a disseminator of information quickly, because the average equipped with social media. Surely community must be wise to take all the information.

Moreover, the journalists, he said, should really broadcast competent data, with competent sources, in order not to become hoax news.
