South Kalimantan export-import declines in May

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan 4/7 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded South Kalimantan's export and import trade balance in May 2017 declined significantly compared to the previous month.

"The value of exports through ports in South Kalimantan in May fell by 5.68 percent and imports decreased by 16.33 percent," said BPS head Diah Utami in Banjarbaru, Tuesday.

She said export value in May was 659.53 million US dollars or decreased compared to exports in April which was US $699.28 million.

The main commodities of South Kalimantan's export were mineral fuel group amounted to 548.19 million US dollars followed by animal and animal fat and wood groups.

"The main export destination countries were China with a value of US $201.36 million, India US $146.62 million, and Japan with a value of US $73.59 million," she said.

Meanwhile, import value in May was US $91.66 million or declined by 16.33 percent compared to imports in April that reached US $109.55 million or up 64.08 percent compared to May 2016.

The main import commodity were from group of mineral fuel US $76.89 million, machine and mechanical equipment US $5.67 million and chemicals group US $1.95 million.

"The main importer countries were Singapore US $77.98 million, South Korea US $4.20 million and Malaysia US $3.33 million," she said.

Anyway, South Kalimantan's trade balance remained positive in May's with a surplus of US $567.81 million, smaller than the April surplus of US $589.73 million.

"Cumulative during January-May 2017 was a surplus of US $2,591.54 million which was larger than the January-May 2016 surplus of US $1,720,74 million," she said.
