Mayor of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan,  H Muhammad Yamin said he wants to meet Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq to discuss Basirih final waste disposal (TPAS) which is being closed.

"We keeps communicating with the Environment Ministry to be able to meet to present a strategic plan related to the existing situation," he said in Banjarmasin, Monday.

The city government, he said, continues to think of the best solution with the direction of the ministry so that the waste emergency can be resolved.

"We want to convey the planning related to the emergency waste situation and hopefully it can be their attention to provide space for us to be able to utilize the remaining landfill areas. Is it possible for us to do greening on the land that has been closed, we will ask for a solution," he said.

Yamin, who has just been inducted by President Prabowo Subianto on February 20, 2025 at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, affirmed that the waste crisis must be addressed immediately.

He emphasized that this is homework that must be completed together, both by the community and the relevant regional apparatus.

“I want us to be aware that our current condition is a waste emergency. Don't blame the community, we in the government must set an example first. ASN (state apparatus) must be discipline in sorting and managing waste,” said Yamin.

Banjarmasin City is now facing a serious problem of piles of waste that has not been handled optimally. This problems is clearly complained about by residents.

In addition to the accumulation at a number of points, Yamin realized the limited fleet of waste transportation is also highlited. The lack of public awareness also worsened the situation.

Regarding this condition, Yamin emphasized that various efforts and solution must begin from within the government.
