Six Tested Positive for HIV in Banjarbaru

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan 14/2 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarbaru AIDS Commission (KPA) found six people tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which carries AIDS disease.

KPA Banjarbaru Secretary Edi Sampana here on Tuesday said the findings were known from voluntary examination on 816 people.

"We do a voluntary examination on hundreds of people from various backgrounds and professions. The results found six people who tested positive for HIV," he said.

He said the identity of the six people was kept secret, because the result was to be a secret though the examination was voluntary carried out.

He had asked the six people to undergo counseling and taking medications regularly given away for free.

"They were asked to undergo counseling and regular visit to the hospital to take drugs that are provided, so that the disease does not get worse," he said.

According to him, the institute since early January giving dissemination about HIV/AIDS to various groups and professions in order to find people with the deadly disease.

Participants were also offered voluntary HIV testing through a blood testing and the results can directly known to be positive or negative.

"It was made to the employees of hotels, karaoke workers, and even to Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPKA) Martapura and Banjarbaru prison inmates. All was done voluntarily," he said.
