Banjarmasin Guarantees Education for Displaced Children

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan 2/1 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Mayor Ibnu Sina ensures the sustainability of education for displaced children in the city as is the mandate of local regulations (Perda) on the protection of abandoned children that is recently passed.

According to him, with the issuance of this law, it is compulsory for local authorities to facilitate the education of abandoned children in this area, including their place to stay.

"We hope no more children dropping out of school in our area, because the city authorities would guarantee the continuity of their education, including the protection of places to stay," he said here, Monday.

He said the realization of abandoned children protection as soon as possible this year, especially to formulate a system that is good for their development forward.

"Indeed, in details we don't have data on how manychildren are categorized as displaced, what is known are many street children," he said.

In fact, said Ibnu Sina, a variety of efforts have been conducted to guide street children, of course for them who netted in raids.

According to him, the abandoned or street children should not be citizens of Banjarmasin, as the city is open to the flow of goods and people not all are monitored.

"But either way, the children who are in this area must be protected, anywhere they come, for their education and place of stay," said Ibnu Sina.

Banjarmasin legislators Dedy Supian said the city government should establish a representative facility for abandoned children's shelter, because it is the most important thing.

"So they will easily be monitored, because otherwise it would be difficult to run this program," said a member of Commission IV.

Dedy said the abandoned children not only are orphaned without a home and love of family, but also who can not be sent to school by parents for lack of funds.
