The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, is improving a shelter, which is accomodating dozens of people with mental disorders (ODGJ), to make it healthier and more humane, Head of Social Affairs Office Nuryadi informed.

"Even though it is a temporary shelter, but here 41 ODGJs are being treated, some have even been there for years," he said here on Tuesday.

The city government-owned Baiman shelter in South Banjarmasin is said to to be quite densely populated.

It also serves to foster socialy troubled communities,  such as street children, homeless and beggars, and displaced residents, thus it is continued to be improved to make it healthier and humane.

For ODGJ shelter blocks, both male and female, for instance, he said, it is necessary to add air circulation facilities, so that air ciculation is healthier.
 
"This year we add some, so that air in the rooms is not clogged," he said.

The Baiman shelter house consists of three blocks of building with 15 rooms, each room accomodating four to six people with a high room condition so that air ventilation is sufficient.
 
The shelter is also equipped with a psychiatric clinic, as well as mental health workers who are always on standby.
 
"We are grateful and appreciate all officers for working heartedly to serve people who need guidance," said Nuryadi.
