Fortune, the international media outlet, has listed PT PLN (Persero) the Top 10 companies in the 2024 Fortune Southeast Asia 500 thanks to its business and performance transformation.

The state-owned company, under the leadership of President Director Darmawan Prasodjo, has achieved a postive business performance and annual financial growth that brought the company as the sixth largest in southeast Asia outdoing a number of multinational companies across the region.

The success, the President Director noted in a statement released by PT PLN South and Central Kalimantan Main Distribution's PR, is a historical milestone for the company that has consistently carried out "end to end" digital-based business transformation over the last 3.5 years.

"All business process are running digitally from generators, transmission and distribution, financial system, procurement and payment to customer service making PLN more agile, strong and quick-moving," said Darmawan.

"We express our gratitude and dedicate our achievement to all PLN people who gave maximum effort till we could change business process from completely manual to digitalized and enable PLN to reach this point to provide the best service for all customers," Darmawan pointed out.

PLN recorded a revenue of USD32.01 billion with a profit of USD1.44 billion. It also recorded assets of USD108.51 billion with a total workforce of 51,245 people.

"This positive achievement is certainly in line with PLN's vision to be the Top 500 Global Company. PLN is fully committed to encouraging business transformation that is in line with the government's mandate to provide reliable and green electrical energy," said Darmawan.

Fortune Asia Editor in Chief Clay Chandler said Fortune's focus on the region comes as Southeast Asia increasingly important in the global economy and credited to shifting supply chains and the region's rapid economic development.

"Fortune Southeast Asia 500 or 500 largest companies in Southeast Asia reflects a dynamic and fast-changing region, whose core economy is growing much faster than Europe and the United States," said Clay.

This is because Southeast Asia is taking much more important role in the global economy, not at least a number of Global 500 multinational companies have shifted more supply chains to Southeast Asian countries, he added.

Fortune Southest Asia 500 2024 noted that Indonesia dominates with 110 companies, followed by Thailand with 107 companies. Malaysia 89 ahead of Singapore with 84 Companies, then Vietnam 70, Filipina 38, and Cambodia two companies.
