Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The administration of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, is trying to make fishing competition as a trigger to promote the beauty of Samber Gelap Island. 303 participants came from several provinces.


Acting Head of Kotabaru Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Zainal Arifin on Sunday said that in addition to hobby, fishing competition was held in an effort to promote the potential tourist attraction in Kotabaru.

"Fishing competition which has become annual event expected to be the tourism destination of "Saijaan Earth (Kotabaru)," he said.

According to Zainal Arifin, who is also the Head of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Agency, fishing competition from year to year has been lured. This is evidenced by the increasing number of participants from several districts of a number of provinces in Indonesia.

Fishing competition this time followed by 303 participants. They come using 101 ships or "spedboat" modified using car engines.

The participants came from Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, and 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan.

"These activities in future should be enhanced in order to be attractive and` become a national, and even international," said Zainal.

Samber Gelap Island is in the Sub-district of Sebuku Island, located in the east of Pulau Laut and Sebuku.
