The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) team paid special attention to Banua Botanical Garden when they visited the garden here on Monday.
"After hearing the presentation and seeing it firsthand, it really good and worth to be a model for botanical garden throughout Indonesia," said Deputy Head of BRIN Amarulla Octavian after observing the garden in the area of South Kalimantan Provincial Government office in Banjarbaru.
Amarulla Octavian who was accompanied by Deputy for Utilization of Innovation and Research Hendrean and acting Director of Research and Innovation Partnership Muhammad Amin held a discussion about development of Banua Botanical Garden in Banjarbaru.
The Governor's Special Expert for Government, Legal, and Politic Adi Santoso representing Governor Sahbirin Noor, Head of Banua Botanical Garden Adilla Yanti and other related officials were also attended.
After the discussion, they toured the Progress Nature of Exhibition Banua Botanical Garden area covering 100 hectares,
BRIN deputy head and his team also planted some Kalimantan typical trees, such as ulin and balangiran.
After listening to Adilla's presentation, a number of suggestion and input were conveyed by Amarulla Octavian, including the need to patent a number of medicine plants and other special quality plants in the area.
"So, it should not be based on testimonial alone, there must be research on the efficacy of the existing plants," he said.
BRIN, he added, will support the development of this botanical garden until it reaches international standard and recognized by wider community.
He even plans to implement a system that can control remotely and applying latest technology.
Head of Banua Botanical Garden Adilla Yanti said, in the last two years the garden has progressed very rapidly, because of the great support from the Governor.
The construction of Banua Botanical Garden was a form of land reclamation that was previously a former traditional diamond mine.
Last year, the Banua Botanical Garden received the second best award in Indonesia. The crowning by BRIN coincided with the anniversary of Bogor Botanical Garden in Wat Java.
