President of Malay World Islamic World (DMDI) Tun Seri Setia Dr H Moch Ali Rustam Yang Di Pertua Negeri Melaka Malaysia opened the 14th International MTQ Majlis Tilawah, which was organized by South Kalimantan DMDI in collaboration with BKPRMI in Banjarmasin City, Friday (March 29, 2024).
The opening ceremony was held at the City Hall, Friday (March 29, 2024), before iftar time and was attended by General Chairperson of DMDI Indonesia Said Aldi Al Idrus and Chairperson of DMDI South Kalimantan Ibnu Sina.
President of DMDI said that the Quran Recital Competition or MTQ aims to instill love of reading Quran in people, as well as strengthening a sense of togetherness between nations of the Malay world.
DMDI has been around for 24 years to collaborate with each other among DMDI members, exchange information, advancing Malay world in terms of economy and technology to be equal with other countries.
In addition, the Sultan Melaka anaugurated the board of DMDI South Kalimantan with Banjarmasin Mayor Ibnu Sina as chairperson.
Chairman of the International MTQ Majlis Tilawah committee Muhamad Riskon said that the event was attended by Singapore and several representatives of states (negeri) of Malaysia, including Negeri Perak, Tranggano, Perlis, Melaka, Serawak and Negeri Sembilan.
From Indonesia were 17 regions took part. They were from Aceh, Kepri (Riau Islands), Lampung, North Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Banten, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West NusaTenggara, and Southeast Sulawesi.
The countries of Cambodia, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam had stated to participate, but withdrew during the event.
