PT Pelni branch Batulicin, Tanah Bumbu, normally serves passengers from Samudera Port, Batulicin, to Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya after the 6.5 magnitude quake hit the northern Java Sea.
"PT Pelni serves Batulicin-Surabaya shipping normally. After the earthquake there was no impact on services," said Head of PT Pelni (Persero) branch Batulicin Yuni here on Sunday.
The magnitude 6.5 tectonic quake that jolted Tuban and a number of areas in East Java, Central Java, and was felt on the coast of South Kalimantan, including Tanah Bumbu Regency, occurred Friday (March 22, 2024).
During the series of quake, Yuni said there was no shipping activity at Samudera Port to Surabaya, so it had no impact on passenger services.
Meanwhile, he said, the number of passengers from Batulicin to Java and Sulawesi ports has increased since the beginning of Ramadan 1445 Hijriah with around 2,100 people per departure or increased by 20 percent, just like last year.
Under normal condition before Ramadan, passengers reached 2,000 with two departure a month.
Yuni estimates that the peak increase in passengers will occur on April 5, 2024 or D-5 of Eid al-Fitr.
To deal with surge in passengers, especially for Batulicin-Surabaya route, PT Pelni is preparing two additional fleets each with a capacity of 1,000 passengers
KM Leuser for Batulicin-Surabaya is scheduled to depart on March 28, 2024 and KM Binaiya on the same route to depart on April, 6 2024.
In addition, KM Egon serves the Batulicin-Pare-Pare-Bontang, Batulicin-Surabaya-Lembar-Waingapu routes.
KM Wilis serves the routes of Batulicin, Makassar, Labuan Bajo, Bima, Waingapu, Ende, Kupang, Kalabahi. Also KM Sabuk Nusantara 93 that serves Kotabaru-Batulicin-Pulau 9-Majene-Silopo according to specified schedule.
"Fare for adult for Batulicin-Surabaya Rp253,000 dan Batulicin-Makassar Rp221,000," Yuni said.
Customers of prospective passengers can view ticket availability information via the "PELNI MOBILE" application.
