Santri (students) and ustadz (teachers) of Al Islam Agricultural Technology Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) in Kambitin Village, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, have planted bamboos.
They planted around 43 types of bamboo in the arboretum, which is part of Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program (PASS) initiated by Adaro Foundation (YABN).
Arboretum is a place where trees and plants are grown for scientific and educational purposes.
Supervisor of Al Islam Kambitin boarding school Ustadz H Fajeriannur Mus'adi expected that this arboretum will be a solution to less fertile soil and limited water availability.
"This arboretum is expected to produce new source of water reserve and increase soil fertility in the area of our pesantren," said Ustadz Fajeriannur in Tabalong, Tuesday.

The students involved in this program not only planted bamboo, but also have responsibility to care for them well, showing their commitment towards environmental sustainability.
Very enthusiastic, santri, ustadz and ustadzah (female teachers) accompanied by YABN representatives listened to technical explanation related to planting and care of bamboo by M Nor Fikri, a representative of Self Learning Institute as working partner.
This bamboo planting became the beginning of Al Islam Kambitin's journey in preserving environment and sustainable education to realize eco-pesantren or an environmentally friendly islamic boarding school.
Their enthusiasm and commitment to caring for bamboo arboretum is expected to provide great benefits for the environment and future generation.
The inspiring bamboo planting program not only protect the environment but also improves agricultural education for students.
Section Head of YABN Deri Angraeini emphasized that the aim of this program is not only planting, but also a good maintenance process so that it can preserve the surrounding environment.
"Bamboo seeds that are planted and cared for will become a success story and pride for all parties and amal jariyah (charity with longlasting rewards) for all of us," explained Deri.
