Adaro Foundation (YABN) together with Self Learning Institute are carrying out bamboo conservation program at the Al-Islam Agricultural Technology Islamic Boarding School in Kambitin Village, Tanjung Sub-district, Tabalong Regency to realize eco-pesantren.

Al Islam school representative Ustadz Hakim said that the school is ready and committed to carrying out this eco-edu-tourism activity considering that it has a big impact on the welfare and image of the Islamic boarding school (pesantren).

"This bamboo conservation is a leading program to realize Al-Islam as eco-pesantren," said Ustadz Hakim here, Saturday.

He expressed his gratitude that this program was continuing. Previously, santri (students) at Al Islam  received training in bamboo processing from Bambu Indonesia Foundation.

“Alhamdulillah, after hearing the presentation of conccept and direction of development, we got fresh air and new hope for pesantren, especially for bamboo program in the future," he said.

Bamboo Program initiated by YABN is part of Adaro Santri Sejahtera (PASS) Program which is provided by the company for Al Islam school in Kambitin. Al Islam is one of pesantrens fostered by Adaro in South Kalimantan Province.

Self Learning Institute representative Mochammad Irvan Efrizal explained that bamboo cultivation at the Al Islam school is very supportive in realizing eco-pesantren.

Bamboo cultivation which is integrated with environmental management and surrounding natural resources, he said, is part of learning for santri.

"Santri can become care agents and environmental conservationists as a concrete step in responding to the challanges of eology crisis nowadays," Irvan expounded.

Planting bamboo is an effort to answer the challanges of ecological crisis as well as an effort to improve the quality of environment,

Bamboo produces 62 tonnes of oxygen per hectare and can absorb 88 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

Bamboo  can also conserve water and in one clump it can store up to 5,000 liters of water.

Irvan said that with a bamboo conservation at Al Islam  school the air quality and water reserves for the needs of pesantren and the surrounding community will be better.(Adv)
