Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government of Banjarbaru builds 50 drilled wells in the the north ring road prepared to anticipate forest and land fires.


Head of Executing Unit for Banjarbaru Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Taufik Rahmat here on Sunday said that 30 drilled wells have been completed.

"The target is to construct as many as 50 wells in the north rim, but completed only 30 wells. The rest will be completed before the end of the year," he said.

He told problems have been encountered in the making of boreholes which reach tens of meters to the harshness of the soil structure in former forests and peatlands.

In addition to the rigors of the soil structure in the inner layer, another problem is the erratic weather throughout the month of September, thus affecting the manufacture of water resources in the ground.

"Even though we faced obstacles, but the manufacture of drilled wells remain to be implemented and the results we are able to build as many as 30 points wells in the location," he said.

According to him, it still will build a 10 point wells and the remaining 10 wells to be done by Wetlands International Indonesia (WII) and the University of Palangkaraya.

"They asked spared 10 points, as they will directly monitor the drilled wells in locations at once examine how the condition of peatlands in the area," he said.

The manufacture of drilled wells in the area of north ringroad aims to anticipate forest and land fires, so it does not happen again like last year.

"Last year, land and forest fires in the north was difficult to be extinguished, because there is no source of water. If there is already drilled wells, the water can be utilized," he said.

In addition to building 50 drilled wells in the area of north ringroad in Guntung Payung Village, BPBDs builds another drilled wells in Syamsudin Noor Village, Landasan Ulin.
