President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for a simultaneous tree-planting movement throughout the country during the rainy season starting in December 2023.
"This is our effort to anticipate climate change and global warming and to overcome pollution in the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area," he stated after planting trees at the Pulogadung Industrial Area City Forest in East Jakarta on Wednesday.
The activity of planting trees also marked the start of the simultaneous tree-planting movement in all provinces in Indonesia involving the role of relevant stakeholders.
The president remarked that the launch of this movement was timed to coincide with the start of the rainy season, which aids the growth process of plants through water absorption.
"We did not do it during the dry season. Since the beginning of the rainy season in December, we will begin the campaign in all provinces and not just Jabodetabek," he remarked.
The head of state noted that the tree-planting activity carried out by the DKI Jakarta provincial government had spread to more than 900 locations.
"Trees in Jakarta are already big enough. However, the small trees are also fine. This is the best time to plant, during the rainy season," he remarked.
On that occasion, the president expressed his gratitude for the participation of companies and business associations in the tree-planting program, including the Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung and the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (API).
In the activity, President Jokowi led the planting of around 744 types of plants in the Pulogadung Industrial Area City Forest on an area of 1.5 hectares.
Some 145 plants of Madagascar Almond, 167 plants of Mahogany, 70 plants of Blackboard Tree, 85 plants of Crepe Myrtle, 86 plants of Monkey Pod, 87 plants of Caqui, 50 plants of Pink Tabebuia Rosea, 42 plants of Yellow Tabebuia , six plants of Buttercup, four plants of Maniltoa Grandiflora, and two plants of Tahitian Chestnut were planted.
