Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed a Hyundai Kona Electric car to mark the inauguration of PT Hyundai LG Industry (HLI) Green Power’s electric vehicle battery cell factory in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday.
The electric car signed by Jokowi is the first Kona Electric to be fully manufactured in Indonesia and uses locally produced batteries.
In his address, Jokowi commended the two South Korean companies—Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution—that led the HLI Green Power consortium in building the first and largest electric vehicle battery cell factory in Southeast Asia.
He expressed hope that the project, with a total investment of Rp160 trillion (around US$9.77 billion), would further strengthen relations between Indonesia and South Korea.
The Kona Electric is capable of covering a distance of over 600 kilometers on a single charge and is sold for approximately Rp500 million (around US$30,542).
