Kandangan, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Lutfi has said it is ready to help the farmers and the government to speed up food self-sufficiency through mentoring and application of agricultural technology.
He added the program to improve the production of rice, corn, soybeans (pajale) is one of the programs that increase food self-sufficiency must continue to be made and given a touch of innovation and technology continuously.
"We are ready to help provide assistance to farmers and the government for the development of the agricultural sector, and encourage ULM's agriculture students to go directly to the fields," he said in Kandangan, Monday.
The statement was made at the farewell as seven students and alumni of the ULM Faculty of Agriculture ended their integrated assistance activities in South Hulu Sungai.
According to Lutfi, the agricultural sector is a challenge and a future for South Kalimantan, when all parties involved are able to manage well and keep looking for new ways to develop this sector.
"Our challenge is to bring awareness to the public and the younger generation that the agricultural sector could be a very promising sector for their livelihood, if manage it well," he said.
Previously, students of the ULM Faculty of Agriculture have been assistance team in efforts to increase production of pajale and various peppers, onions and meat through the Integrated Farmers Empowerment Movement (GP2T) in South Kalimantan for three months.
Head of the Agricultural Counceling Center H Syaifulah said, the presence of ULM agriculture students showed the government's commitment and universities to develop the agricultural sector actually implemented seriously.
According to him, the presence of the students were very motivated the application of agricultural technology to be used in the development of food crops in the area, that what is programmed by the government towards food sovereignty could be achieved.
"The presence of the students in the middle of a farmer helped and change the mindset of farmers in order to be successful in pajale program," he said.
As in the know, this time the farm became one of the leading sectors of economic growth in South Kalimantan, after the slump in the mining sector, which resulted in economic growth drops from 6-7 percent per year to 3.9 percent.
