Banjarmasin City Government through Education Office has set four days online schooling (PJJ) from October 4 to 7 for the reason of haze getting worse.
Head of the office Nuryadi here on Tuesday said the online schooling decision letter issued today is addressed to early childhood learning (PAUD), elementary (SD) and junior high schools (SMP).
He said the letter issued because city air is increasingly unhealthy as a result of rampant forest and land fires (karhutla) from surrounding neighbors
"Banjarmasin City has been affected," he said.

This condition, he acknowledged, increasingly affecting health of teachers and students, especialy as data from the Banjarmasin Health Office shows acute respiratory infection (ISPA or ARI) highly increased.
"(According to) this data 6,000 ISPA cases recorded," he said.
Refferring to this data, he said, a coordination meeting was held to determine step to suppress ARI cases, and finally it was decided to implement online schooling (PJJ).

During the implementation, educational units are asked to continue monitoring health and learning progress of students and urge students not to do outside activities.
However, teachers and educational staff, said Nuryadi, still g to school while paying attention to their health and keep monitoring and provide online school guidance to students.
"After October 7, 2023, Banjarmasin Education Office will conduct evaluation and coordination with other parties to determine the next policy," said Nuryadi.
