PT Antang Gunung Meratus (AGM) in collaboration withnon-governmental organization Komite Investigasi Negara Republik Indonesia ((KIN-RI) stocked 25 thousand freshwater fish seeds in Amandit River.
The sowing of fish seeds took place at Raudhatul Firdaus Study Complex in Pagar Haur, Jelatang Village, Padang Batung Sub-district, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Regency.
"We are today with PT AGM and other parties stocking freshwater fish seeds types of snakehead fish, toman (giant snakehead fish), baung, jelawat, and catfish," said KIN RI Secretary Yusuf Ardi in Pagar Haur, Monday.
He said the aim of sowing freshwater fish seeds is to maintain the availabity of fish as well as preservation of Amandit River with back to nature concept.
He acknowledged that fish in the river has greatly decreased, even there may not be any fish that can be caught traditionally anymore, either by fishing or netting.
"So we are trying to realize people's wish for Amandit River to return to the way it was. We conveyed it to PT AGM, alhamdulillah (Thank God) the management responded very well, providing assistance to support this activity," he said.
Sec. Head of CSR PT AGM Widharto Ali said the company has a commitment and vision and mission of social and environmental responsibility, and stocking of fish seeds in Amandit River is in line with this vision and mission.
One of them, he said, is preserving dan managing the environment in sustainable manner.
He hopes that by sowing fish seeds in the Amandit River, one of the main rivers in HSS District, would remain the main fishing spot for local communities.
HSS Administration Assistant for Government and People's Welfare H Zulkifli welcomed the sowing of freshwater fish seeds and hoped that this acitivity will continue in aj effort to preserve the river, which needs cooperation from all parties, both communities, government, and private.
