Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Governor of South Kalimantan H Sahbirin Noor said it would expand the cassava garden to boost economic growth in the province which consists of 13 counties and the city.


He stated that when answer press room members in South Kalimantan's Legislative Council (DPRD) on Friday related to the province's economic growth target of at least four per cent per year.

The economic growth target was contained in the South Kalimantan Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2016 to 2021 which is a picture of vision and mission of governor elected in local elections (pilkada) in December 2015.

He said to encourage economic growth to reach the target of four percent or more, in addition to focus on agricultural sector in general, the provincial government will expand cassava plantations.

"Several districts in South Kalimantan whose lands allow for the expansion of cassava plantations. Therefore, in the near future, the province will instruct relevant agencies to conduct discussions," he said.

"We will seek to boost revenues in the agricultural sector, including cassava plantation. Its potential is possible, if managed seriously," said Uncle Birin (another nickname forSahbirin) after complete determination of South Kalimantan RPJMD 2016-2021.

According to the governor, there must be a solution and a new breakthrough, while lethargy mining sector led to the decline of regional economy, so that public income can be raised.
