Batulicin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of Tanah Bumbu requires seven-unit of flooding detection devices or Early Warning System (EWS) to assess the threat of flooding early on.
Head Tanah Bumbu Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Mariani through the Head of Prevention and Disaster Mitigation Abdul Rahim in Batulicin on Monday said Tanah Bumbu has two EWS already installed, while the need is nine units of EWS.
"Two units of EWS installed in Jombang Village, Sub-district of Satui, and in Mangkal Api Village, Sub-district of Kusan Hulu, because the two are the most flood-prone villages," he said.
He explained in Tanah Bumbu there are three major rivers prone to flooding and only one river outfitted with EWS.
Ideally, one river should be installed with three EWS, one at upstream, the other at midstream and downstream, so that people living in the lowlands and along the river find out at an early stage before the flood.
In Tanah Bumbu there are three sub-districts could potentially flooded during rainy season. For that local BPBD filed appeal to the central government for the procurement of seven EWS.
"We proposed the procurement of seven EWS through BPBDs work plan for five years, starting from the period 2017-2021 in order to be realized by the government through local budget orstate budget," he explained.
He also hopes the proposal can be granted every year at least one unit EWS to cover existing EWS.
