The South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalsel) is using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or drone to mitigate forest and land fires by firt conductig a quick and precise detection of hotspots
"So when an information coming of suspected hotspots at a location that is difficult to reach, the drone will immediately be flown to check," said Chief of Polda Kalsel Inspector General Andi Rian R Djajadi in Banjarbaru, Monday.
The drone in the shape of mini-aircraft with a length of one meter and a two meters wingspan is operated by the Directorate of Sabhara.
Chief of Police said that the drone can fly quite a distance of 50 kilometers.
It said to accurately recording detected location of hotspots relied of the camera to send the pictures immediately, so it can be followed up for an immediate blackout.
"The principle is that in handling the fire, even the slightest fire that appear must be extinguished quickly so it doen't grow bigger," he said.
Andi also emphasized the importance of community participation in preventing karhutla which every year always threatens in the dry season.
He asserted, there is no justifiable reason to burn land, because the impact is very serious harm with smog disaster it results.
"I order the arrest and legal rocess for every perpetrator of fire to save human life and environmental sustainability," he said.
