Head of South Kalimantan Communication and Informatics Agency H Muhammad Muslim announces that beginning tonight (Monday, March 20, 2023) analogue tv broadcasting in South Kalimantan 1 area is terminated.
The South Kalimantan 1 area covers the City of Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru City, Banjar District, Tanah Laut District, and Barito Kuala District.
"The termination of analogue tv broadcast in the five districts/cities begins tonight at 23:59 Wita," he said.
Muslim expounded that the termination of analogue broadcast is to switch or migrate to digital broadcast or popularly known as Analog Switch Off (ASO) as it has been programmed by the central government and the South Kalimantan 1 area ready for it.
The readiness included the distribution of set top boxes (STB) for poor households, so that they can watch digital broadcasts without interruption.
"Digital broadcasting offers a cleaner and clearer (picture and sound compared to analogue broadcasting). With ASO people can watch broadcast of higher quality and variety," he said.
"We continue to coordinate with Private Broadcasting Institutions (LPS) to accelerate STB distribution," Muslim said.
He appealed people in South Kalimantan 1 area who have analog television and cannot receive digital signals to immediately install STBs.
“People can buy STB at electronic stores or online. Make sure to buy only STB that has been certified by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics,” said Muslim.
Meanwhile, Head of Partnership and Media Relation of the Agency Erlinda Puspita Ningrum said based on the data from the ministry as of March 20, 2023 the distribution of STB for the South Kalimantan 1 has reached 93 percent.
"The quota for South Kalimantan 1 was 21,626 STBs both from the government and LPS," she said.
Puspa said this is a high achievement for areas outside Java.
