Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Banjarmasin took Waseda University, Japan, to hold a national seminar with the theme "Agroforestry-based Social Forestry for the Community Self-reliance and Competitiveness of the Nation."


The seminar at Roditha Hotel, Banjarbaru, according to ULM Rector Prof. Sutarto Hadi on Thursday, presenting Prof Morikawa from Waseda University Japan, as one of the speaker. In addition, there are 46 other papers from various universities in Indonesia also presented.

According to him, an event attended by academicians from leading universities in Indonesia, and representatives of government agencies in the field of forestry, will discuss the importance of the social forestry policy that benefit the wider community.

"Mainly people of South Kalimantan region, where most of its territory is forest area, how it can provide well-being, it is the goal," he said.

According to him, ULM important to get involved to help the government make the program successful in establishment of community forests, hoping the public can actively manage forests sustainably, and deliver economic results.

"Therefore, it is very important that we listen to the input and experience of various scholars, including from university in Japan," he explained.

In any case, said Sutarto, forests in this region in particular and in general the archipelago can be a agroforestry-based social forestry to restore the functions of forests, biodiversity, as well as opening business opportunities and increased incomes.
