Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru District, targets free of malaria by 2019.


"If the South Kalimantan provincial government targets a malaria-free in 2020, then we target one year earlier, in 2019," said head of Kotabaru Health Agency H Cipta Waspada through the Head of Communicable Diseases Affair Dr Darsono Kay Demak here on Tuesday.

To realize these targets, Health Agency made a strategic program, amongs are, training of field personnel to disseminate the eradication of mosquito larvae, and distributing bed nets and others.

According to him, out of 21 sub-districts in Kotabaru there are about three malaria endemic sub-districts, namely Pulau Sembilan, Kelumpang Hilir and Sungai Durian.

He said, gradually the number of malaria patients in Kotabaru tends to fall. "Currently the number of malaria patients of about 300 people, less than 1 percent per 1,000 of the population," he explained.

Darsono suggests, amongs the obstacles to free Kotabaru of malaria are cultural, geographical conditions and infrastructure.
