The Banjarmasin Public Polytechnic (Poliban), South Kalimantan, trained it students skill to handle potential fires.
 
Poliban Deputy Director 1 for Academic and Student Affairs H Ahmad Rizani here on Thursday said the training was supported by the Banjarmasin Fire and Rescue Agency.

The activity was part of firefighting socialization in commemoration of the month of the national occupational health and safety (K3).
 
"It is held from January 18 to February 22 on the yard of the Heavy Equipment Study Program," he said.
 
Rizani said it was important for students to have firefighting skill to prevent potential fires.
 
The reason is that Poliban creates quality human resources who are ready to be deployed in the world of industry and work. They have to be able to handle anything, including fire.
 
"Students graduating from the Heavy Equipment Study Program, for example, are not only expert in repairing heavy equipment, but also expert or not panic if a work accident occurs that could cause a fire," he said.
 
Rizani emphasized that Poliban is concerned about eqipping all students this expertise, as it is part of occupational health and safety.

Head of Community Protection and Firefighting H Maulanna Fatahillah said fires could be handles with simple toold, such as towel and light fire extinguisher.
 
He called residents to always vigilant and pay attention to electrical installation tools and gas cylinders at home.
 
"We can prevent fire dangers by checking electric installation tools that should meet SNI and PLN standard, do not modify the installation yourself, and always check gas cylinder and be careful when you see fire. If you can't put it out, call the nearest fire brigade," he said.
