The management board of directors together with employees' representatives of PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk carried out tree planting action in all the company's operational areas in Citeureup, Cirebon, and Tarjun, on Earth Day comemoration, Friday. 

Indocement Director & Secretary Antonius Marcos explained that the company is aware that mining activities have the potential to have an impact on the environment.

"Thus the company keeps on trying to reduce the impact to land damage through environmental management and monitoring plan in accordance with Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) and post-mining land reclamation plan," he expounded.

"By th end of 2021, Indocement has planted nearly 150,000 multi species trees in its three factories locations," said Marcos.

Trees planted also work as windbreaker or shelterbelt from the Indocement production process and increase oxygen supply and CO2 absorption, increase water absorption, and can reduce air temperature.

"On the momentum of Earth Day, Indocement invites all levels of society in Indonesia to preserve the environment for the future of earth through activities that have a positive impact such as planting trees, saving energy use, using public transportation, reducing plastic use, consuming natural products, recyled products," he added.

Indocement is committed to green breakthrough, one of which by producing the environmentally friendly green cement. Indocement has launched hydraulic cement that its production process produces much lower CO2 than portland cement.It reduces the use of clinker by 10% to 13% and the amount of coal energy.

In 2021, Indocement has also increased the use of alternative fuel by up to 12,2%. The company targets to increase it to 25% by 2025. 

Another sustainability effort is the detraction of scope 1's greenhouse gas emission in 2021 to 606 kg CO2/ton cement equivalent from 623 kg CO2/ton in previous year. 

SHECSR ITP Tarjun H Teguh Iman Basoeki said specifically for planting in Tarjun factory area as many as 150 trees types of trambesi, sengon, angsana, balsa, and bintaro were planted.

"This is Indocement's commitment in its care for the environment. We carry out this activity regularly and its management directly involves the community. We continue to apply health protocols during the action, because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
