Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, H. Sayed Jafar collaborated with palm oil company PT Jhonlin Agro Raya to accept local people as employees in a bid to improve people's welfare.

"Nowadays PT Jhonlin Agro Raya is establishing a palm oil factory in Kamboyan Hamlet, Cantung Kiri Village, Hampang Sub-district. The district government is invited to carry out ground breaking for the construction," said H. Sayed Jafar here on Monday.

Since the beginning the factory is built, he said, the local government asked the company to take local workers, the native residents of Kotabaru.

According to him, hiring local residents as employees is an effort to improve people's welfare as well as to reduce unemployment. "Therefore, the local government asks the company to prioritize local people as prospective employees," he said.

The palm oil factory, which is built on an area of 28 hectares with an investment of Rp195 billion, is planned to have a capacity of 60 tons/hours and will be completed in 16 months.

For Kotabaru, oil palm plays an improtant role as a source of locally derived income (PAD) and opens up great jobopportunities for local community.

"We ask PT Jhonlin Agro Raya to build a good cooperative relation with the local community, both farmers and local workers so that the relationship between the company and the community can run harmoniously," he said.

Meanwhile, the management of PT Jhonlin Agro Raya ceo Ehsan Agro Sentosa (EAS) Bambang aria wisena said that the company is grateful, because establishing palm oil factory has received support from the local government, the community, and other stakeholders.

"We are very enthusiastic about investing in Kotabaru District. Previously, we had also built a palm oil factory in Pulau Laut Tengah, Sungai Pasir Village, the local government and the community were very open to us," he said.
