South Kalimantan Forestry Agency reported that forest area utilazation permits (IPPKH) holders have been fulfilling their obligation to rehabilitate the province's river basin areas (DAS).
"More than 30,000 hectares have been (and being) rehabilitated by IPPKH holder," acting Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Office Hj Fathimatuzzahra said, Saturday (March 19, 2022).
She expounded that DAS rehabilitation cannot directly be assessed due to some factors, including some are just beginning to plant (P0), others are in the stage of maintenance (P1) and second maintenance (P2).
"It's not that they don't carry out rehab, but most of permits holder are in the process of completion, because DAS rehabilitation is conduted in stages, adjusting funding and time of implementation," she elaborated.
Of 30,000 hectares land rehabilitated, 4,000 hectares have been assessed on the success rate of plant growth and were declared successful and returned to stakeholder (government).
Based on Regulation of Ministry of Environment and Forestry No. P.59/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/10/2019 concerning planting for DAS rehabilitation, 84 IPPKH issued for 48 companies covering an area of around 60,000 hectares.
The reason is that DAS rehabilitation by IPPKH has only been intensified since 2017 when Hanif Faisol Nurofiq served as Head of Forestry Office with licensing restriction.
She assured that the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan is very serious on the implementation of DAS rehabilitation by IPPKH.
It is one of major component to support the success of the Governor's Green Revolution Program which aims to repair the environment through a massive planting movement with the motto “Planting for Our Grandchildren”.
The government real action in the field is appointing officers who are responsible to provide assistance to DAS rehabilitation, then the progress will be reported to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry who is authorized to set a sanction for failure to implement.
