South Kalimantan Food Crops and Holticulture Agency stated that some of the province's agricultural land has produced rice four times a year.

"South Kalimantan agricultural land has been able to produce four times a year," said Secretary of South Kalimantan Food Crops and Holticulture Agency Imam Subarkah when answering Central Kalimantan DPRD in their meeting with the government-owned enterprise PT Bangun Banua Kalsel at Mercure Hotel, Thursday.

Imam, who was invited to the meeting between the company and Central Kalimantan DPRD's Commission II overseeing agriculture, elaborated that the agricultural land producing rice four times in a year covering about 500 hectares are in three districts, Central Hulu Sungai (HST), Tabalong, and Tanah Laut.

"So a worthy and suitable land is chosen, technical irrigation is a requirement, because water supply must be good, it should not be stagnant," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the agricultural land that produces rice three times a year is in Barito Kuala, said Imam.

However, the Banua Enam or the upstream area of six districts produces rice twice a year. "They are able to produce 4 to 8 tons rice per hectare, because they plant a high variety of rice," he expounded.

Actually, Imam said, farmers in South Kalimantan in average still plant rice once a year, because they produce a pure variety of Banjar rice.

Farmers' rice production in South Kalimantan province in 2021 reached 1.1 million tons or 830,000 tons.
