Eight villages in Balangan District won the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) and South Kalimantan Governor, as well as CSR assistance from PT Adaro Indonesia.
Balangan Deputy Regent Supiani handed over the award to the eight villages, namely Riwa, Sungai Batung, Teluk Karya, Balida, Murung Ilung, Paringin Timur, Bungin, and Panggung, who won the category of Proklim Madya.
ProKlim aims to encourage people to improve climate resilience through adaptation actions and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through mitigation.
PT Adaro Indonesia's CSR Department Head Leni Marlina highly appreciated all parties, including partner companies and the community, that had collaborated and supported the fostering of villages for the program to create climate villages, strengthening adaptive capacity and reducing the level of emission.
"Hopefully this will be a role model and proof that our company always provides the best for the community and activities like this can be duplicated for other villages," said Leni.

PT Adaro Indonesia's CSR Commercial Section Nico Seniar added that Balangan Coal is very supportive of Proklim, because it is a nationwide clime change adaptation and mitigation action synergy program to increase the involvement of the community and other stakeholders.
The villages that received Proklim CSR fund from PT Adaro were Balida, Bungin, Riwa dan Banua Hanyar. While from PT Balangan Coal were Gulinggang, Hukai, Piyait, Tundakan. The fund received ranged from Rp15 million to Rp50 million.
Meanwhile, Head if Waste Management of the Balangan Environment Agency Dessy Reyhanie said that the assistance from the company partners was very beneficial for the village.
According to her, they can develop the climate village program, especially related to waste management. CSR funds can also be used for reforestation, food security, and tourism village related to climate village.
