Adaro Logistics is committed to improving the quality of human resources around the company's area, especially at the productive age.
Through its subsidiary, PT Barito Galangan Nusantara (BGN), which is engaged in shipbuilding and repair, it provides welding training for the youth of Tinggiran II Luar Village, which is in the company's operational area.
According to Adaro Logistics External Relation Division Head Iwan Wiranto, this training is a form of PT BGN's participation in developing and fostering local people to be useful for themselves as well as synergizing and supporting the company when needed.
Local workers who have expertise are certainly needed by the company. Currently, most of the youth of the village have backgrounds as farmers and traders, with an education equivalent to or below high school.
However, with the training provided, it is hoped that in the future they will be able to compete with workers from outside the region.
“I believe that if they are trained and forged directly into the real jobs at PT BGN, they will have the ability to do the work needed by PT BGN and be able to compete in the job market in South Kalimantan," said Dinar, Operation Dept Head of PT BGN.
He said the qualification of a welder at work includes butt joint, fillet welding, etc. with the SMAW electric arc welding process which is widely used in all shipyards.
Welders are considered skilled if they have taken a welding test with satisfactory results and have a welder certificate.

In this training, PT BGN collaborated with the South Kalimantan Job Training Center (BLK). A total of 13 participants were trained by BLK instructors on the use of light equipment and machine, measuring with basic mechanic tools, and doing mechanical cutting, for 200 hours or the equivalent of 20 days.
Then, continued with an internship at PT BGN for two months to sharpen their skills and add experience in the shipbuilding industry.
With this series of activities, participants are expected to gain complete knowledge and expertise.
“After attending the welding training, I have increased knowledge and skills that make me more confident," said Fahruji, one of the trainees.
The activities were also welcomed by Bahtiar, the village head of Tinggiran II Luar. “We really appreciate what PT BGN has done for the development of community resources in our village. Even though PT BGN has just started operating, it has tried to synergize in village development,” he said.
