Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - Chief of Banjarmasin Health Agency Diah R Praswati revealed that as many as 40 thousand masks were distributed to residents in the face of drought and smog that affect health.


According to Diah, people can obtain free masks at community health centers (puskesmas) at each area. Banjarmasin with four sub-districts has 26 community health centers.

"We give each health center 400 masks to distribute to the public, especially visitors, so it's been about 11 thousand masks now distributed," she said while at City Hall, Tuesday.

While nearly 30 thousand masks still in the health office to be deployed and given to the public in stages through the agency's programs in the field.

"By distributing masks, we expect cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI) can go down, so that public health can be maintained to face drought and haze from forest fires," she said.

She states, ARI cases in this area occurred up and down each month in 2015, as recorded in 26 health centers. However, surprisingly in February, the case even as high as 10,616 cases.

Diah said, at the end of July the number of ARI cases actually decreased by 5,884 cases. While valid data for August is still not obtained, but it is estimated not too far from the previous month.

Efforts that have been carried out by Health Agency with 26 health centers, namely, activities of promotion, prevention, early detection increases of ARI cases in health centers.
