The Environment and Forestry Ministry stressed on the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation, especially in the context of the younger generation, to preserve the environment, particularly water resources.
"We all know that due to changes in lifestyle and the rapid developments in information technology, it also has an impact on the environment. Many issues and problems, environmental damage, we have experienced (it), whether it is water pollution, air (pollution), (and even) natural resource depletion," Asri Tresnawati, the Head of the Environmental Generation Development Center at the Environment and Forestry Ministry's Community Training and Environmental Generation Development, said here on Monday.
Tresnawati highlighted that plastic contamination caused water pollution, given its decomposition process that took a long time. Its disruptive presence in the water also pollutes the ecosystem.

She delivered the statement during a water preservation workshop hosted by a private company for Jakarta State University.
She noted that currently, several activities were aimed at better waste management and encouraging more recycling.
Tresnawati deemed such measures as important, as waste that is not managed properly can infiltrate water bodies and affect the ecosystem. The damage to the ecosystem will also affect humans, who require water for their daily activities.

"Hence, the Environment and Forestry Ministry is fully aware that efforts to tackle environmental problems cannot be singlehandedly made by the government but requires the support and participation of all stakeholders," Tresnawati emphasized.
"The young generation present today will certainly be the decision makers at various levels and institutions. It is expected that the younger generation, as prospective decision makers, can convey messages of truth and be the agents of change and the nation's next generation," she stated.
