The South Kalimantan Youth and Sport Agency (Dispora) expressed joy after wrestling finally gave the first gold medal for the province at the 20th National Games (PON) 2021 in Papua.

"Finally we got the gold, the wrestling that breaks the egg," said Head of the Sport Achievement Improvement of the agency M Fitri Hernadi, Monday.

According to the report he received from Papua, the gold medal winner for South Kalimantan was Arbainsyah who competed in a 65 kg freestyle class at the Futsal Sports hall of Merauke Dispora, Monday.

"This is very encouraging news. Hopefully, we get another gold medal," he said.

He said there are still sports to compete, including boxing whose two athletes made it to the finals.

"So do Silat and Kempo, so there is a chance to win a gold medal," said Fitri.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan wrestling coach Zulhaidir when contacted said he was very happy for his athlete who had donated a medal at the Papua PON.

Especially for Arbainsyah who has won gold. While two other athletes, Rendi Aditya and Roxana, won bronze medals.

South Kalimantan fielded nine wrestlers at the Papua PON with the target of winning two gold medals.

Overall, South Kalimantan sent 111 athletes to compete in 25 sports at the PON Papua.
