Principal of the state junior high school SMPN 2 Kandangan, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District, Farida Ariyani said that she is currently pioneering to open a trash canteen at her school.

She uses the unused school canteen as a place to sort out the trash and to receive trash alms.

"The school already has a garbage bank account, so now it will be increased," she said in a report during the commemoration of the school's 63rd anniversary, Friday (Oct 8).

She explained that the school is trying to get the children to get used to collecting school garbage, sorting it out, processing it, and receiving alms from garbage brought from home.

The garbage almsgiving has been carried out several times, deposited into the garbage bank, and the fund goes directly to the account. The fund collected were prepapred for various program activities at SMPN 2 Kandangan (Spendaka).

"The vision of these activities is that the students of Spendaka will not only have a religious attitude and excel academically but also love the environment,” she said.

HSS Deputy Regent Syamsuri Arsyad said he welcomes the program and is ready to support it, including helping coordinate it with the Public Housing, Settlement, and Environment Agency (Dispera KPLH).

He admitted that currently, the garbage continues to pile up. If there is no solution, the final disposal (TPA) in Sungai Raya Sub-district will be full within 5 to 10 years.

"Currently we already have TPS 3 R (site for reducing, reusing, recycling waste) in several places. Here the waste is sorted, processed, so not all garbage ends up in the final disposal. If we can do this, it will only be full in the next 20 years," he said.
