PT Makmur Sejahtera Wisesa (MSW) and PT Tanjung Power Indonesia (TPI) conducted a co-firing trial of 1,000 kg organic waste pellet at the MSW coal-fueled power plant (PLTU) in collaboration with the local Environment Agency, Wednesday (Oct 6, 2021).

This ceremony for achieving the first stage of converting waste into renewable energy was held offline at the Tanjung Puri Hall here.

The activity was also carried out online through Zoom meeting attended by 53 people from the management of Adaro Power, YABN, CSR representatives of Adaro's subsidiaries, local government, and members of Tanjung Selatan Bersinar TPS 3R (site for reducing, reusing, recycling waste) self-help group.

Tabalong District Secretary Abdul Muthalib Sangadji said that in the past TPS 3R was the government's dream to solve the garbage problem, but the region growing and it has finally materialized. Even it has innovated by processing waste into useful materials.

“In the past, we face mountains of garbage, but now the problem of waste is solved with TPS 3R and by achieving innovation in converting waste into energy,” he said.

Sangadji appreciates all the support from the community, government, and companies to realize environmental sustainability in Tabalong District.

Head of Tabalong Environment Agency Rowi Rawatianice said that the production of garbage in the district which reached 58 tons/day poses threat to the environment.

This prompted the agency to collaborate with Adaro Power and Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) to initiate the Waste Processing Site at the Source (TOSS) program by appointing the non-government group TPS 3R Tanjung Selatan Bersinar which is empowered to process waste into the organic waste pellet.

With training, coaching, and the high commitment of the group, they managed to process 3,000 kg waste into 1,000 kg organic waste pellet which became a renewable energy source.

She said co-firing trial was the use of organic waste pellet as biofuel that could used as fuel for power plant along with coal.
