Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The groundbreaking of a mega-project of a bridge connecting Pulaulaut, Kotabaru district, with Kalimantan mainland in Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan, to be conducted at mid-June 2015.


"God willing, if there is no obstacle, the groundbreaking of the bridge will be in mid-June," said Regent Kotabaru Irhami Ridjani here on Sunday.

Originally, the groundbreaking of 5.6 kilometers long bridge and woth Rp3,5 trillion was scheduled at June 1, coinciding with the commemoration of Kotabaru 65th. But for some reason, the schedule is delayed until mid-June 2015.

Regent said, whenever the laying of the first stone is not a problem. The most important is the bridge linking the two districts be realized.

Irhami hopes that, with the establishment of the bridge was the pace of the economy in both regions, particularly in Kotabaru district, will increase rapidly.

To support the accelerated development and improve people's welfare, Kotabaru regency prepare several strategic steps, including opening the Special Economic Zone (Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus or KEK) in Pulaulaut West, exploring cooperation with the manager of the West Java city of Bekasi (Jababeka), and improve infrastructure.

Head of Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Ansyar Noor explains, Kotabaru in last few years the focus of realizing the desire for KEK which is still under discussion with the central government integrated team.

Kotabaru is expecting to be selected as one of the five regions in Indonesia appointed as KEK.

"There are 48 areas in 27 provinces are now fighting to be designated as an area that has KEK," he said.

Among the advantages of Kotabaru, it is part of the Indonesian archipelagic sea lanes (ALKI) II, which has the international shipping lanes. Sea depth in the area of 20-30 meters so it can stop off ships weighing up to 200 thousand metric tons.
