A total of 72,930 or 35 percent of 253,000 residents of Banjarbaru have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine.
"(Based on) data from the Banjarbaru Health Office, 35 percent of the population have been vaccinated and it is expected to gradually reach 70 percent," said Mayor H M Aditya Mufti Ariffin when reviewing mass vaccination targeting Banjarbaru people aged over 18 centered at the Bina Satria Building, Saturday.
"Our target in September is 70 percent of Banjarbaru residents to be vaccinated. However, the target we set to adjust the number of vaccines received from the central government through South Kalimantan provincial government," he said.
The effort to reach the 70 percent target aims to build herd immunity that people have immunity because they have received the vaccine.
"The more people vaccinated is better because it contributes to building herd immunity, so that coronavirus attack can be prevented through vaccine have been injected into individuals," he said.

Head of Health Office Rizana Mirza said that 72,930 residents who have been vaccinated came from various backgrounds according to the latest data compiled on Friday (July 16, 2021).
"Those who have been vaccinated are health workers, public servants, the elderly, vulnerable communities, and the general public with details 46,157 people received the first dose and 26,773 in the second dose," he said.
