The Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) encourages people living in peatland areas to take advantage of their surrounding potential to increase income by developing various micro, small, and medium businesses (MSME).
South Kalimantan BRGM analyst Enik Maslahah in Amuntai, Wednesday, said that one of the BRGM's efforts to support the development of MSME is by providing various skill training by utilizing raw material found in peat areas.
"We try to get housewives and girls to play an active role in developing and utilizing the peatland potentials into various crafts and industries that could boost the local economy," she said.

BRGM's scope of work, she pointed out, does not only focus on infrastructure development but also on developing potential and community participation in peat restoration activities.
"Peat restoration activities are frequently associated with infrastructure, such as blocking canals or drilled wells. But what really matters is how the community participates in peat restoration activities," she said.
Community, she said, is also invited to protect the peat ecosystem, one of which by using natural dyes for crafts, as an effort to improve the economy in peat villages, as well as to manage the potential that exists in the village.
Previously, BRGM held training during May 29-31 for women's groups in the peatland area of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District in the form of making masks using natural dye, making hand sanitizers, and soap.
