The city government of Banjarmasin calls on all to be aware of the current high tide and its peak is predicted to be on May 6, 2021.
Acting Head of Banjarmasin Public Works and spatial Agency (Dispupr) Doyo Pudjadi here on Monday said the city is being hit by the high tide from sea entering rivers and causing inundation of road and residential areas on the riverbank.
"Although the current level of the tide is still in a normal condition, not too high, everyone must be aware of it," Doyo reminded.
Meanwhile, his agency works to clean rivers and drainage so as not to obstruct the flow of water and cause puddles to recede slowly.
"We have deepened the riverbed by dredging it, while the turbo troop or cleaning troop for drainage and river waste are maximizing their work," he said.
Doyo also asked subdistrict heads and village heads to bring their residents into working together to clean rivers and drainage in their environment, in order the early anticipation can avoid a severe inundation.
"It is predicted that on May 6 there will be a high tide. At this time, the peak not yet occurs, but the inundation is everywhere," said Doyo.
The city of Banjarmasin, which is below sea level, is a very risk for high inundation, as hundreds of rivers cross the city, all of which have their tie to the Martapura River which empties into the sea.
In mid-January, Banjarmasin was hit by a major flood for up to one month, there were even areas where inundation took longer, causing tens of thousands of houses affected, especially in the areas of East, South, and North Banjarmasin.
