The Tanah Bumbu Agriculture Agency and the South Kalimantan Agriculture Quarantine Agency (BKP)  destroyed 20 kilograms of undocumented horse meat from  Barru, South Sulawesi.

"The annihilation of the horse meat is based on Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning the quarantine of animal, fish, and plants. The distribution of the horse meat is not equipped with a complete document from the relevant agency," said the BKP  Supervision and Enforcement Sub coordinator Lulus Riyanto here, Sunday.

He said the destruction was done at the Animal Quarantine Installation on Jalan Arjuna, Batulicin, by burning in an incinerator. It was witnessed by KSOP (Port Authority), BPTD (the Land Transportation Management Agency), Agriculture Agency, Transportation Agency, and the police.

The meat was found by officers when inspecting passengers and goods on the Awu-Awu ferry at the PT ASDP Ferry Pier in Batulicin on April 4, 2021. It turned out there were no documents related to the purchase of the meat.

"Officers must destroy the meat with the aim of protecting the public from using or consuming food that is sent from other areas," he said.

Lulus explained that all meat before being sent or distributed must go through a quarantine process. This needs to be known by the public. If it has no document, it will be detained, even the carrier could be subjected to criminal sanction.

"Now we still provide guidance the carrier of goods, if in the future he still does the same thing, it does not rule out he will be sentenced to more than two years and a fine of IDR2 billion," he said.
