The desire of humanitarian and environment volunteers for Forum Komunitas Hijau (FKH) to restore Sungai Madang as a fruit center in Sungai Tabuk, Banjar District, was responded by the South Kalimantan Forestry Agency.
About 400 fruit seedlings was sent by the agency to Sungai Madang on Wednesday and were received by FKH Banjarmasin Chairman Mohammad Ary to be then handed over to the chief of neighborhood unit (RT) of 9 Sarifudin together with the chief of the local farmers Syaifullah and residents.
An official from the Forestry Agency said that the assistance consisted of six types of fruit plant, namely mango seeds 50, rambutan 100, avocado 14, durian 100, longan 86, crystal guava 50.
FKH member Akhmad Arifin acknowledged that the idea of restoring Sungai Madang and providing seeds was after seeing the condition of the fruit center after the flood disaster in January. Many orange --the mainstay fruit here-- and other fruit trees died.
Sungai Madang Village is famous as the center for the production of orange which is named Sungai Madang orange.

FKH itself has raised around IDR5 million to buy Sungai Madang orange seeds to be cultivated on a large scale at the center.
Chief of RT 9 Gudang Hirang Sarifudin said in his village there are about 125 families involved in the plantation. It was to them the seeds were distributed to be developed.
FKH not only wants to restore Sungai Madang as an orange center but to make it a tourist area for picking orange and river cruising tours in the plantation.
