The South Kalimantan Provincial Government is committed to sending all sports branches to the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua.

According to Head of Sports Achievement Improvement of the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) M Fitri Hernadi, this commitment has been built with the provincial chapter of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) as well as DPRD (South Kalimantan Legislative Council).

"The commitment is that all sports to depart (for Papua)," he said in Banjarmasin, Wednesday.

DPRD, he continued, when his agency held a meeting with Commission IV, asked that not any branch of sports be left behind.

"The council stated that PON is a dignity of sport for regional athletes, so there should not any to be left behind," he pointed out.

The Dispora and KONI really appreciated the council's support, especially regarding the budget. This is because, he said, the budget need for sending hundreds of athletes to Papua PON is estimated at IDR35 billion.

"Currently the grant funds received by KONI are IDR7 billion, in South Kalimantan's Dispora is around IDR6 billion, the rest will be submitted in the revised budget (APBD Perubahan)," said Fitri.

"There the athletes will not sleep at the hotel, but a mess is provided. South Kalimantan plans to provide a shelter for athletes," he said.
